Finals IBC 2017 Lineup Orpheum, Memphis TN
The Interntional Blues Challenge 2017 is over, and we want to
congratulate winning artist in the band catagory:
Dawn Tyler Watson representing the Montreal Blues Society.
Dawn is not just a dymanic performer, she had triple bipass surgery a few months ago. Talk about one powerful woman! Blues Music Magazine calls her "one of Canada's true Blues Treasures." Winning for Solo/Duo was Al Hill representing the Nashville Blues Society.
260 acts from 38 states and 14 countries came to the Mecca of the Blues, Memphis Tennessee for 5 days to compete in the annual event. Our congratulations also go out to the Red Dirt Revelators, who represented our Charlotte Blues Society on Wednesday & Thursday night. So proud of their performances. Very happy to say this was also a good year to have us represented at the IBC by CBS Board members: President Rick Ballew & his lovely wife Libby , VP Mary London, At Large Member Betsy Norton-Stowe, Betsy's sister & Blues Sister Patty Cappetta, CBS members Rick Kite, Lauren Michaelis, Nona P King, Susan Tobelman & our very own Blues Treasure :Mr Roy, plus Pam Taylor was in town to anchor the band for the Women in Blues event earlier in the week.
It was great to have so many representing this area and supporting the Blues from the CBS ranks. Both President & VP were in discussions throughout the week on how to make the Charlotte event bigger and better for the 2018 competition.
Just wait to hear what will be happening in Charlotte. If you want to compete in Memphis next year, start getting your band or solo/duo act ready right now. We will be looking for band, solo/duo, youth competition and best self-produced CD to represent us! Can't wait to hear from you!

Known around the world for the trio he has been touring and recording with for years "Trampled Under Foot", which includes his sister Danielle and brother Kris.
As a solo artist he continues to tour with his own band. If you are looking for raw blues, great vocals, and a backing band that will impress you, don't miss this show.

The Last Blues Jam at DDI 01/01/2017
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
The final night CBS would meet at the Double Door Inn, our home of many years. A fabulous night of music, memories and magic. But when it was over, the reality is it was over.
We did some searching, checked out other venues. We are proud to announce a new home for the Charlotte Blues Society. The Rabbit Hole 1801 Commonwealth Ave in Charlotte's Plaza/Midwood area is it! The Rabbit Hole reached out to us months ago. We were there in November with Rusty Barkley for his birthday and had a great time. They are doing drink specials for us too: $5 vodka special, $5 whiskey special, $3 PBR Tall Boys, $3 Blue Moon (in honor of the BLUES Society of course) And our favorite bartender : REID from the Double Door will be there too! A new home, a new year and a chance to bring new people into the fold and let them claim their own love of the Blues.
We'll be Keepin' the Blues Alive...looking forward to having you join us every step of the way!
Route 66 dedicates "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" to all those who have played the DDI and passed on
